Monday
Last night we got home, we cleaned up and I did some work for a few minutes. Our guests started arriving at 6, and we gamed. After that I did some more work, and finally to bed.
The party crawled out of the cellar of the blasted outbuilding and met up with Cap and his siege engineers, who had lined up their four siege weapons in the shrubs, marked out firing paths towards the old tower, and were waiting for a command. When they were all joined, Cap gave them some basic rules about staying out of the firing path and began the assault. After the third wave of stones, a flock of otherworldly ravens attacked the party but ignored the engineers and Cap himself. Our brave adventurers defeated the ravens, who exploded as they hit the ground. Cap's team fired a couple more wave of stones and brought the tower down. They then began repositioning to attack the Temple itself.
While the assault was going on, Jillian climbed the wall of the Temple and disappeared around the corner from the rest of the party. We'll rejoin her later.
Jim and Daisy ventured forth to examine the now-battered tower. They found an opening on the far side, and began to examine it. It was clearly an archway, as opposed to a split in the wall, and as they poked their heads into it they heard a coughing moan from inside. They decided to explore farther, and heard a voice say 'Someone's coming in!'. A rattling above them warned them, and as they jumped back a grating fell from above and blocked the way forward. They returned to the party for reinforcements, and returned with Granny, Riki and Anasha, and Jebidoh in tow. They explained what they had encountered, and the assemblage pressed forward. Inside they found eight bodies in various positions of repose, forming an unlikely tableau of death. Not surprisingly, the bodies rose up and began to fight. As they were slain, they left behind lots and lots of black and green ichor and goo. It was very gross.
A messy encounter later, they opted to leave the chamber and not explore the tower further. They returned to Cap and the engineers and had a conversation with him, and began to suspect that there was something wrong. They led him to the rear entrance of the tower, and then Daisy went back to the engineers and detected something wrong with Burne, one of the merc magic users. She also led him to the group and they began asking him questions. Under the light of a Candle of Truth he revealed some interesting things - he had caused Cap (a paladin) to lose his faith and his connection with his god, and re-consecrated him to a different god. Cap, in anger, began to draw his sword - which promptly exploded, sending him to the ground and leaving the party slightly stunned. Anasha cast a spell to incapacitate Burne and Daisy knocked him down, and while the rest of the group tended to Cap they trussed up the badguy and prepared to question him. And that's where we wrapped up for the night.
Tonight Laura and Ben have doctor's appointments, and I plan to watch hockey. Tomorrow night nothing is planned. Thursday night is fighter's practice, and Friday night is Border Skirmish (and Jeff will be here). And Ben graduates on Saturday.
And now, on to work!
